California Men’s Rehab & Drug Abuse Awareness

According to the most recent data compiled by United States Census Bureau and The National Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration, nearly 1 in 12 citizens in California have 1 or more substance abuse issues (these figures include statistical analysis of reported alcohol, prescription drug, and illicit drug abuse combined). An alarming number on the surface, yet understandable, as science reveals addiction as a disease of the brain. Unlike most mental disease, addiction can not only be treated, it can be permanently overcome during recovery. In return, addiction awareness and prevention becomes more widespread the more patient and understanding we become during the healing process.

Compulsive Activity Disorders in California

Sex & Pornography Addiction

Living in a pressure filled society many times pushes one to a physiological reaction known as “fight-or-flight”. This acute response to stress forces some into unhealthy ways of escaping. Many find pornography and/or deviant sexual acts as a quick escape, due to porn being readily available online. Similar to drugs, sex and pornography activate a stimuli in the brain that it can eventually become a compulsive activity, many times negatively affecting the most intimate of relationships. Many addictions coincide with a dual diagnosis of depression, severe anxiety and/or PTSD. Prescott House therapists understand the process of healing and recovering. If a change is needed, Prescott House is ready to give back that freedom…read more

Gambling & Spending Addiction

Chasing thrills is very commonplace in everyday life. Whether it’s hunting, skydiving, fast cars, etc., men tend to seek a boost in adrenaline in many different ways. Much like taking risks physically, taking risks financially can also become a “high” and a pleasure forming activity. The grandiose sensation of “winning it all” or “losing it all” has been described as a feeling like no other. From the family man playing poker to the high roller, a pathological gambling addiction can place anyone in a financial ruin and worst of all, with broken relationships. Spending addictions can also have no associated risk at the time of purchase but the reliance on lavish items such as fancy cars, elaborate trips and the finer things in life can lead to insurmountable debt, proving gambling is not the only financial risk we should be on the lookout for…read more

Extended Aftercare Program

Since 1988 Prescott House has served the recovery community as an extension of primary treatment that offers individuals the time and intensive environment to change and heal. We have found through experience, and nationally recognized research shows, that long term recovery is dependent on long term treatment in a nurturing and intensive therapeutic environment.

The primary component of the program is the group therapy experience. Clients participate in at least 12 structured therapy groups each week as well as working individually with a primary therapist. Another piece of our program is volunteer service work in the local community until a client is therapeutically ready to get a part time job or take classes at one of our three local colleges…read more
